This was my last trip into the community for medical mission work. This was the classroom that I saw patients in with another American doctor as well as a few Polish and Ukrainian doctors.
Graffiti is the same in every classroom, I guess. Either this kid loves himself, or the teacher caught him in the act.
What a view!! This is looking out from the school.
This is our Ukrainian security on our medical mission. As diligently as he was guarding that tree, I knew we were safe...
Seeing kids was what made these medical missions so much fun.
Okay, kiddo, smile whenever you're ready.
A very photogenic bunch today.
Now here is someone who knows how to smile!
Three for one visit, but worth it.
Picture me with SPCs Liang and Miller. These are the medics that I worked with during the medical missions. Other than Liang guessing me at 5 years older than I am, they were pretty fun to work with.
Once the clinic is over, we go outside and interact with the kids.
Just hanging out.
This liitle boy was too cute. He'd just kind of hang out with the group, but did his own little thing the entire time.
Group photo. They thought it was cool after I took their picture because I'd show it to them on the display.
By far, the weirdest toilet I had ever seen. There was a rope on the left side so short people could flush it.
This little guy seemed to like to tag around with me.
Another picture of me with my little buddy.
This is one of the groups I worked with in the hospital. All I can say is, "Where's the disinfectant?" From left to right is SGT Williams, SSG Lonnemann, myself, SGT Nave, and MAJ Kane (my roommate and other clinic doc with me).
My last full day in Kosovo included a day trip to Skopje (pronounced Skop-ee-yah), Macedonia. No trip would be complete without a trip to McDonald's, my first fast food meal since leaving in early May.
Oh yeah, I lost about 15 pounds, dropped my total cholesterol by 80 points, raised my HDL to 74, and lowered my LDL to 63. I killed it all with ONE trip to a Macedonian McDonald's, but it was certainly worth it!!
The women in Macedonia were not very attractive, but the heat took it out of everybody...
This is a statue of some religious hero in Macedonia. From what I understand, he was forced to convert from Christianity, and then he persecuted Christians. Not sure about all of that.
This is from the front with his name.
This is a view from the back. The cross in the bottom right corner is older, and I was told they put the horseman statue up facing it with his right hand halting Christianity. Really, all I was going for in this picture was a view of the horse's butt.
Views from the older market area in Skopje, Macedonia. Although it was very hot, it was a nice walk through the historic district.
